Q. When did you start racing? What was your first bike?

I started racing at age 12 and my first bike was a Yamaha pw 50

Q. What were your first thoughts in your head at your first race as you were on the line? 

I don’t really remember what I was thinking but I know I was really nervous!! 

Que pasaba por tu mente cuando estabas en la linea de salida de tus primeras carreras?La verdad no lo recuerdo, pero si se que estaba muy nervioso!!
 

Q. What is/was your favorite bike?  Besides the KTMs I ride now, which are a lot better then what I grew up riding, my favorite bike was my KX 80. That was the first bike I ever got for free when I got my first real contract from a major company. 

Cual fue/es tu moto favorita?

Aparte de la KTM que traigo ahorita, que son mucho mejores que en las que creci, mi moto favorita fue mi KX80. Esa fue la primer moto que me regalaron cuando tuve un contrato con una compañía grande.

Q. How old were you when this happened and who was the major company?

I had just turned 13 and Team Green Kawasaki picked me up as one of there off road sponsored riders. 

Que edad tenias cuando paso esto, y cual fue la compañia que te patrocino?Apenas acababa de cumplir 13 años y Fue el equipo verde de Kawasaki quienes me escogieron como uno de sus pilotos patrocinados.

Q. What are you riding now?

I’m currently riding the KTM 450 xc and the 250 xc

Q. What series(s) are you riding right now? How is the series going for you so far?

This year I’m racing the WORCS (World Off-road Championship Series) and I’m leading the series by 11 points after two rounds.

Que seriales estas corriendo ahorita? Y como te esta yendo?

Este año estoy corriendo el WORCS (world off road championship series) y voy a la cabeza del serial por 11 puntos.

  Q. You won the WORCS series last season. How does it feel coming back in 2008 as the returning champion?

It feels good knowing that I accomplished what I set out to do and that I could do it again as long as I keep my motivation.  I love riding and that will never change so as long as I’m racing and still having fun I don’t think about anything else. 

Tu ganaste el WORCS la temporada pasada. Como se siente volver en el 2008 como campeón?

Se siente bien saber que eh cumplido mis propósitos y que podría seguir cumpliéndolos mientras tenga mi motivación.  Me encanta andar en moto y eso nunca va a cambiar, asi que mientras este corriendo y divirtiéndome, creo que no hare nada mas..

Q. Do you have any interest in riding the Red Bull LMS?

Last year I really wanted to race the LMS but getting home from the ISDE just a week prior I didn’t feel like I was ready physically to race something that tough.  Hopefully this year I get the opportunity to compete. 

Tienes algun interes en corer en el Red Bull LMS?El año pasado en verdad quería correrlo, pero volver a casa después del ISDE una semana antes del evento, no me hizo sentir que estaba listo físicamente para correr algo tan duro.. Esperemos que este año tenga la oportunidad de hacerlo. 

Q. You mention LMS being a tough race.  Was this knowledge from word of mouth?

Mostly word of mouth from people that I ride with and who have similar riding abilities to mine. David Knight wouldn’t call it the toughest race he’s ever done if it wasn’t truly insane!!

 Tu dices que el LMS es una carrera muy dura, esto te lo dijeron otras personas?Si, me lo dijeron personas con las que corro y que tienen habilidades similares a las mias, por supuesto que David Knight no va a decir que es la carrera mas dura que el ha corrido si no fuera una cosa en verdad enferma!!

Donde estan tus lugares favoritos para correr?Usualmente salgo de mi cochera y encuentro caminos muy divertidos para andar, probablemente mi zona favorita para andar es atrás de mi casa!!!  

Q. That’s sweet. So, where has been your favorite race site since you started racing professionally?

I grew up racing at Los Angeles County Raceway and I still enjoy going out there every other week.  Even though I’ve never really had a big race there I still think of it as the place I learned how to race. 

Entonces, cual a sido tu lugar favorite para correr desde que empezaste profesionalmente?Yo creci corriendo en “Los Angeles County Raceway” y aun disfruto ir cada 2 semanas, de todos modos nunca eh tenido una carrera importante ahí, solamente lo recuerdo como el lugar en donde aprendi a correr.

My favorite rider is probably Juha Salminen or Steffan Everts and my hero has always been my dad and Ty Davis

Quien es tu corredor favorite? Algun Heroe por ahí?Mi corredor favorito probablemente es Juha Salminen or Steffan Everts, y mi héroe siempre ha sido mi papa y Ty Davis. 

Q. What makes Juha and Steffan rider favorites for you?

Juha Salminen is one of the nicest people you will ever meet.  His racing accomplishments are huge and his ego and personality are as down to earth as you can get!  That is something that I truly admire in people.  Even though I’ve never met Steffan Everts,  I feel he’s got the same mentality. 

Que hace que Juha y Steffan sean tus favoritos?Juha es una de las mejores personas que vas a conocer, sus logros en las carreras son enormes y su ego y personalidad son tan aterrizados como puedas imaginar.. Eso es algo que en verdad admiro de el. De todos modos nunca eh conocido a Steffan, pero presiento que son iguales.

My most memorable race was the last race of the WORCS series last year where I clinched my first title. 

Cual ha sido la carrera mas memorable para ti?

Fue la ultima carrera de WORCS del año pasado, donde logre mi primer titulo.

Q. How has that affected you and your racing?

It’s definitely helped my confidence and also my pride.  I take what I do very serious and it helps so much when I feel I’ve accomplished exactly what I set out to do

 Como ha afectado eso a ti y a tu forma de correr?

Definitivamente me ha dado mas confianza y orgullo. Yo tomo muy seriamente todo lo que hago y eso me ayuda mucho cuando siento que eh cumplido exactamente lo que me propongo a hacer.

Cual crees tu que ha sido tu logro mas grande?Ganar la medalla de oro en mi categoría en el ISDE y ganar el campeonato WORCS en el 2007 

Q. You also won the AMA’s Sportsman of the Year title in 2007.  Would you say that the year 2007 was the year that put your name on the map, so to speak? Or do you think your racing career has spoken for itself?

I had a great year last year and it has helped my career in many ways but I don’t think it will be the last good year I have.  There is so much more I want to accomplish and as far as putting myself on the map I hope that those who support me appreciate everything I do. 

Tambien ganaste el “AMA´s Sportsman” del año en el 2007.  Dirias tu que el 2007 fue el año que puso tu nombre en el mapa? O piensas que tu carrera de piloto habla por si misma?

Tuve un muy buen año el año pasado, y definitivamente ha ayudado en mi carrera, pero no creo que vaya a ser el ultimo año bueno que tenga.. Hay mucho mas cosas que quiero lograr y espero que todos aquellos que me apoyan, aprecien todo lo que hago.
 

Q. What would be your ultimate off-road racing dream?
My dream is to just be a successful and well-rounded person and be able to raise and support a family. Motorcycles and racing is my life but I don’t believe it determines who I am.  There is so much more to life then riding a bike and racing and I want to be successful enough to do those things. 

Cual seria tu ultimo sueño de carreras de Off road? Mi sueño es ser exitoso y capaz de formar y mantener una familia. Las motos y las carreras son mi vida, pero no creo que eso determine quien soy, hay mucho mas en la vida que andar en moto y competir, y yo quiero ser lo suficientemente exitoso como para descubrir todo eso..
